NFL week 1 recap

Cowboys 20 Eagles 24

Philly kicked off the season with a win over the Cowboys on Thursday night. While most people expected a blowout now that Micah Parsons has been shipped out of town, Dallas held their own and could have potentially won the game if not for some key drops by CeeDee Lamb down the stretch.

Chiefs 21 Chargers 27

This matchup took place in Brazil, with the Chargers putting together an impressive victory over Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. Things started ugly for Kansas City when Xavier Worthy injured his shoulder running into a teammate, and it only got worse after Harrison Butker missed a costly extra point in the second half.

Buccaneers 23 Falcons 20

Who would have guessed that the NFC South would produce one of the most exciting games of the week? Rookie WR Emeka Egbuka caught his second touchdown of the game with just 59 seconds to go, before the Falcons drove the field only to miss a game-tying field goal on the final play.

Bengals 17 Browns 16

The good news for Cincinnati is that they earned a Week 1 win over Cleveland. The bad news is that Burrow and company struggled, putting up just 141 yards of total offense. In reality, the Bengals were lucky to win this one after the Browns missed a 36-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter.

Dolphins 8 Colts 33

Colts’ quarterback Daniel Jones made a statement in Week 1, dismantling the Dolphins with ease. Jones led the Colts to points on all seven of the team’s drives, finishing the game 22 of 29 for 272 yards and a touchdown, along with 2 rushing scores. After being cast off from the Giants last season, Danny Dimes just put the league on notice.

Raiders 20 Patriots 13

The Raiders also enjoyed a strong day from their new starting quarterback, as Geno Smith put up 362 passing yards en route to a comfortable road win over the Patriots. The win also marked head coach Pete Carroll’s first with the Raiders, and saw rookie running back Ashton Jeanty run for his first career touchdown.

Cardinals 20 Saints 13

This wasn’t the most popular matchup on the board and for good reason; there’s little hope surrounding the Saints this season. The Cardinals rolled into New Orleans and picked up the win over the Saints in a game that was never in doubt during the second half. Who Dat Nation may be better off focusing on the 2026 NFL Draft.

Steelers 34 Jets 32

The Steelers escaped with the win in this one thanks to a 60-yard field goal by Chris Boswell with just over a minute to play. Aaron Rodgers got revenge on his former team, throwing for 244 yards and 4 TDs in the victory. It wasn’t all bad for the Jets, as Justin Fields looked sharp under center and the offense showed signs of life.

Giants 6 Commanders 21

The Russell Wilson era began in New York, and it may be over just as quickly. The veteran passer looked downright awful in his Giants debut and the fans are already calling for rookie Jaxson Dart to step in. The Commanders cruised to an easy win, getting solid play from Jayden Daniels and a strong outing rom free agent acquisition Deebo Samuel.

Panthers 10 Jaguars 26

The Jaguars started their 2025 campaign off with a win over the lowly Panthers, in a game where the most exciting part may have been the weather delay. Jacksonville was in control from start to finish, with RB Travis Etienne Jr. racking up 143 yards on the ground, including a 71-yard scamper just before halftime.

Titans 12 Broncos 20

It may not have been the performance Denver was hoping for, with Bo Nix accounting for two interceptions and a lost fumble, but their defense stepped up when it mattered most. Tennessee’s Cam Ward didn’t do much in his pro debut, but we’re willing to give him a pass considering the defense he was facing.

49ers 17 Seahawks 13

You can quit worrying about Christian McCaffrey’s calf issue, as the running back put up 9 catches and 142 yards on offense in the victory. Seattle led for most of this game, before the 49ers scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:34 remaining. The big loss for San Francisco was George Kittle, as their star tight end left the game with a hamstring injury and is now expected to miss 3-to-5 weeks.

Lions 13 Packers 27

Already a popular Super Bowl pick, the Packers showed why in Week 1 by dismantling a very capable Lions squad. Green Bay moved the ball at will on Sunday, but their defense was even more impressive, completely shutting down Detroit’s high-powered offense. Once Micah Parsons gets more involved, this Packers team will be tough to beat.

Texans 9 Rams 14

While it may have been a low-scoring affair, you have to be impressed with Rams QB Matthew Stafford. The veteran looked strong in the win despite missing most of the preseason with back issues, throwing for 245 yards and a score against an elite Texans defense. If he can stay healthy, the Rams could be a darkhorse to win the NFC.

Ravens 40 Bills 41

Sunday Night Football delivered the best game of Week 1, and possibly the entire season. The Bills were down by 15 with under 4 minutes to play when Josh Allen led them to 3 scores and an unthinkable 41-40 comeback win over Baltimore. The reigning MVP finished with 394 yards and 2 TDs through the air, along with another 2 scores on the ground.

Vikings 27 Bears 24

Vikings QB JJ McCarthy got the win in his long-awaited debut, rallying his team for the comeback win. Trailing 17-6 late in the 3rd quarter, McCarthy threw 2 scores and ran for another in the final frame to earn the victory. It was a resilient performance by the young signal-caller, giving Vikings fans plenty to be excited about in 2025.

Looking Ahead

Things move quickly in the NFL so try to keep up! Week 2 kicks off on Thursday night with a high-profile matchup between Washington (+3.5) and Green Bay (-3.5). Can Jayden Daniels and the Commanders find a way to navigate the Packers’ defense or will Green Bay rack up another impressive win?
