Trash talking has always been a part of the NFL, but it’s no longer just the players getting into it. NFL teams are now taking to social media to troll their opponents, and football fans can’t get enough of it.
In years past, NFL teams would simply post highlights and recaps on social media. These days, they’re posting petty memes and hilarious captions at the expense of their rivals. These posts aren’t mean-spirited, just quick-witted barbs for some harmless fun. There’s already been a number of hilarious examples this season, giving you even more reasons to follow NFL team accounts online.
Let’s take a look back at some of the funniest NFL social media posts in 2025. Keep in mind that all of these posts are from official team accounts, which only makes them more hilarious. It may be nicknamed the “No Fun League”, but it looks like the teams below didn’t get the memo.
Clam Chowder, Courtesy of the Bills
Starting with a post from this past Sunday, the Bills were in high spirits after pulling off an incredible comeback win over the Patriots. Trailing 21-0 late in the second quarter, Buffalo came storming back for the 35-31 victory.
The Bills weren’t afraid to have a bit of fun with it after the game, posting an image of New England clam chowder with a “W” made out of croutons. There’s nothing better than a post that can make you laugh and get you hungry all at the same time.
Cleveland Kept the Receipts
You need to be careful what you say in the NFL, as teams tend to have long memories when it comes to throwing shade. The Packers learned this lesson the hard way following their Week 3 loss to the Browns.
Earlier in the year, Green Bay LT Rasheed Walker was quoted saying “I think we can go undefeated.” After beating them, Cleveland took the opportunity to remind him of this quote, while slapping it on the famous side-eye meme of Ace from Love Island. Talk about petty done to perfection.
SpongeBob, But Make It NFL
Another funny NFL troll came just this past Sunday from the Chargers. After ending the Chiefs’ playoff hopes with a 16-13 road win in Kansas City, Los Angeles teamed up with SpongeBob SquarePants to take a shot at their AFC West rivals.
This is the first time the Chiefs have missed the playoffs since 2014, so you can understand why the Chargers were all too happy to rub it in their faces. Still, there’s something objectively hilarious about an NFL team using a SpongeBob clip to trash talk their opponent.
How Do You Like Them Apples?
Earlier this season, the Steelers were feeling quite pleased with themselves following their 21-14 victory over the Patriots. Pittsburgh’s social media team couldn’t resist taking a shot at New England with a little help from the movie Good Will Hunting, recreating the classic “How about them apples?” scene.
Instead of a girl’s phone number scribbled on the napkin, it was a big “W” that was slapped onto the window as the punchline. It was a great example of a social team knowing its audience and using a piece of Boston pop culture to cut deep.
Social Media Smackdown
With a 12-2 record, the Broncos have the best record in the NFL this season. One of those wins was a 44-24 blowout of the Dallas Cowboys back in October. Apparently it wasn’t just the players battling it out that day, it was the team’s mascots too!
Denver shared a clip of both teams’ mascots squaring off in a wrestling ring. Miles the masked bronco beat up on Rowdy the cowboy, including a flying takedown from the top turnbuckle. Not only is this truly hysterical to witness, but it also perfectly mirrored the results of their Week 8 matchup.
Panthers Leaving Their Mark
The Panthers gave NFL fans one of the biggest upsets of the season when they took down the LA Rams back in Week 13. The 31-28 win was a huge moment in Carolina’s season, and they wanted to be sure that everyone knew it.
Shortly after the game ended, Carolina’s social media team posted an image of a ram with a large “W’ sheared onto its side, along with a Panthers’ logo. Combined with the caption “Herd the Panthers won,” it was the perfect way to tell the league they’d left their mark on the Rams.
That Look Said Everything
Whether it’s a former girlfriend or a former quarterback, everyone wants revenge on their ex. That’s exactly what Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs got when New England defeated Buffalo 23-20 earlier this season.
The Patriots captured all of the unspoken tension and drama with a simple picture, showing Diggs giving Josh Allen the side-eye as they walked past one another post-game. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, which could explain why no caption was needed for this one.
